Automotive Heater Core Replacement in Berkeley

Oceanworks offers superior Berkeley automotive air conditioning and heating repairs, including heater core replacement
Heater core is a crucial element of your vehicle’s heating system. The bad news is that a heater core that’s leaking, or is clogged, cannot be repaired – it needs to be replaced.

Located inside the car, heater core is usually positioned on the passenger side, under the dashboard. Engine heats up the coolant which then flows through the heater core. The blower motor blows air across the heater core – air coming in contact with the heater core absorbs the heat, and is then redirected through the vents into the vehicle’s cabin.

If we suspect that heater core is malfunctioning, we will perform automotive heating system inspection and testing. If it turns out that the heater core is indeed at fault, we will let you know, and give you an estimate of what it will take to replace it.   Once you authorize the work, we will replace the heater core, then fill the radiator with proper mixture of coolant/water. Next step is to bleed air from the system. The final step includes testing with engine turned on, so we can verify that the heating system if functioning correctly, and that it blows warm air, and that it performs correctly regardless of the temperature settings.

To keep your vehicle’s a/c and heating system at top performance, we recommend regular vehicle maintenance. We also recommend periodic coolant replacement. The replacement interval differs depending on the make and model of your vehicle, but most manufacturers recommend coolant replacement every 25,000 – 40,000 miles.
If your vehicle is exhibiting any of the symptoms below, there is good chance that there is a problem with the heater core:

  1. Steam coming from the vents, when warm air is turned on.
  2. Coolant leaking into the car (from under the dashboard – it will typically leak on the passenger side)
  3. Air coming from the vents is not as hot as you expected
