Very pleased start to finish; from making the appointment, through getting an estimate, to having my car repaired quickly and at a fair price. The whole team is courteous, well trained, efficient, and professional. They have earned my trust.

The team at Oceanworks are the best! Bob sat down with us and thoroughly explained the steps they would take to help resolve the issue with our 2015 Impala. They are honest, reliable, and such a pleasure to do business with! We are grateful for a positive first visit and will definitely be coming back to see them for future service needs!

This complaint as well as others have been filed with the better business bureau with the State of California. My car battery kept draining mysteriously and with the reviews of this business on yelp, I decided to give the shop a go. I called prior to coming in and was quoted $80 for diagnostic fee so I decided to make the trek from Alameda to Berkeley to have my car checked. Upon dropping off my vehicle, my information was not collected nor any paperwork provided and was instructed to just leave the keys and go which I thought was odd, so I decided to take a photo of my car before I left. Chris called me the end of the day(4/4/23) and told me that the mechanic had time to look at my car and they suspected my trailer hitch wiring was causing the battery drain but asked for more time to further diagnose as they thought there may have been another problem. The following day Chris called me and told me that my vehicle was ready to be picked up and told me it took 2 hours to complete their work($320 fee instead of $80 initially quoted) and when asked what the problem was it was just noted to be the trailer wire they suspected initially. Chris also proceeded to say “oh by the way you have damage on your hood.” This raised a red flag for us because we had no damage prior to drop off so naturally upon arriving we decided to inspect the vehicle. The damage they caused was done by forcing the hood down on the arm that held it up causing the hood to buckle upwards and break support area on the hood. We talked to Chris and Bob and expressed our concern and felt terrible that our car was damaged by them and on top of that they wanted to charge more than initially quoted. They assured us that their “30 year mechanic was methodical and could not have caused the damage the way he works”. I provided photos with no damage prior to drop off parked directly in front of ocean works and received the vehicle with a hood dent with large gap. The shop owner, Brian, has provided videos of my sienna while under their care showing that the hood gap was undamaged(more narrow than how it was returned). He stated that he reviewed surveillance footage of the the car at their shop and said that “I am 100% confident that we did not cause your problem. I suspect that it happened after one of your multiple jump starts. Likely sometime between when you made the first appointment for 3/28 and when you actually arrived to drop it off 4/4.” I then proceeded to provide them with a time stamped home security footage(just before we left to drive to their shop)of the exact area underneath the hood at the arm hole just prior to driving to their shop that showed zero damage prior to drop off. Owner, Brian, responded by sending me a photo taken on 4/5(at pick up near his shop)of the damaged underside of the hood along with an image of my home security camera. He proceeded to state that the two photos were his proof that damage was already there before I dropped it off. The only problem was the background of his photo and our home security footage did not match up. When I ask,”Please explain to me how a photo taken on 4/5 (at pick up) with a different background from the home security footage provided shows that damage was done before I dropped off to your shop?” He responded,”I am 100%sure that we did nothing wrong and you provided the evidence needed to prove that.” I repeated my replied, “Please explain to me how a photo taken on 4/5 (at pick up) with a different background from the home security footage provided shows that damage was done before I dropped off to your shop?” His response was, “Good luck. I’m done talking with you over text at this point.” My car was parked on the street not in their shop parking lot when I picked up the car so your property is not protected while you leave it at their shop. This shop attempted to overcharge me and caused damage to my car and will not take responsibility for it.

I've been bringing my car here for about 1.5 years now and love the service I receive. The staff are nice and always communicate what they are doing, how much they think it will be etc. I had one small issue upon picking up my car once and they immediately fixed it and took accountability for it. That alone is great customer service. So glad to have this gem in my area and I'm happy to be a returning customer.

Over the past year I've had my car serviced at Oceanworks Berkeley on two occasions. I cannot say more than enough good things about the quality of service Oceanworks Berkeley provided me. First, my car has been and continues to run smoothly since it has been repaired at Oceanworks Berkeley. Second, the customer service at Oceanworks Berkeley is amazing as they make you feel comfortable because of how kind and sincere they are as well as how knowledgeable they are about their work. I recommend Oceanworks Berkeley enthusiastically!!!! :)

We brought an older car in for a basic inspection and oil change. They could have easily "found" multiple items in need of service. Instead they just did what we brought it in for, were super friendly, and charged me a fair price. We will definitely return.

Another amazing repair from Oceanworks! I took my Honda Fit in for a mysterious water leak after the February storms and Oceanworks was able to find how the rain was getting in and seal it up in a couple hours! I am impressed by the expert service by Rich and great customer communication by Chris, and I will always take my vehicles to Oceanworks.
