I'm a new Oceanworks customer as of 2016. I just had them do the timing belt service ($1400 with tensioner, acc belts, water pump, cam seals, oil change) on my 100k, 2004 Taco and everything seems great. I like the vibe of the shop... Angus and Natalie are fun to talk to and are a wealth of knowledge about all things Toyota. This is a place where it feels like you get what you pay for... and you will certainly pay for it... NOT cheap, but there is QUALITY to this establishment. I brought my wife's FJ Cruiser in for a transmission flush and Natalie quoted my $60 for the service, but she didn't realize it was a "maintenance free" transmission which is more involved to flush. Normally that would be a $90 service, but she honored the $60 quote and just warned me that it would be more next time. This will be my go-to shop for large repairs in the future, so I will keep the review updated.

Chris is the man!! They were recommended to me by a close family friend, I don't think I'll ever take my car anywhere else! Seriously this is hands down the most trust worthy helpful mechanic shop in Berkeley!

Good work, fair prices, honest advice.

Super informational about my car. Not to mention they were able to resolve the problem-- I would go as far as saying they are honest about your problems and not in it to charge you crazy amounts of money. Will definitely go back for any other mechanical issues.

I brought my car here last week because the air conditioner stopped working. They were recommended by another mechanic who I had called first based on proximity to my apartment but that mechanic doesn't do hyundais anymore. I'm so glad they pointed me in the right direction though. So I dropped my car off nice and early (still got to work on time - yeah!) and asked them if they could also check out my check engine light that popped on the same time the AC broke. Sure, no problem. I got a call later that morning. Well the check engine light gave them 7 different codes, which is kind of a lot. So they talked me through how it might be something with the computer. Computers are super expensive. Instead of jumping to "we need to fix all 7 of these codes" or "we need to order and install a new computer that costs more than your car is worth" they said "we want to spend some more time with this." I said sure. They kept it overnight. They next morning, before lunchtime, they called and told me how they cleaned up some corroded wires and zip tied a wire that had been shorting out against the exhaust pipe. All repaired just like that! And the AC worked again! And I could pick it up that afternoon! No expensive computer (I honestly would have just called it quits on my old car if it had come to that), no expensive AC repair, and no random extra expenses thrown in. These guys are so great. I'm so glad they took the time to get to the real root of the problem, and their labor rate was not bad at all. Definitely bring your Hyundai here if you want it treated right. Thanks to Chris and the rest of the team! You've earned yourselves a repeat customer!

As with other reviewers, this has been my go-to mechanic for GM vehicles for years. This is not a check-the-box-like-a-robot crew. They care deeply about solving the problem in the most cost effective way for *you* (versus what's convenient for them or their labor rates). As a general rule of thumb, come in as informed as you can be about your vehicle, and this will only help (not hurt) their ability to be the best partner for the care of your car over many years. If i come in with an unusual (or ancient) problem, if they don't know the answer immediately, they will investigate and research the issue as if it were their own vehicle, and they will explain to you how they are doing it; this is just an example of their honest approach, and it is much more credible than mechanics who give you no visibility into what or how they will solve the problem and then gouge you and/or band-aid your complaint. You've heard it already from many voices here on Yelp: Chris, CJ, the whole Oceanworks Berkeley crew... I trust these guys, period. They have the well deserved gratitude of many customers, especially mine.

I am very satisfied with Chris and Oceanworks Berkeley. I popped in to get a diagnostic done on a brake light issue. My Subaru was inspected, diagnosed and repaired within two hours and works exactly as I would have hoped. Chris also agreed to work with me on a financing issue which made my day. Thanks again, I will be back.

A friend came here a few years ago with a truck issue ... a loose bolt on a vehicle, serviced by a shop 3 hours north of Berkeley. Chris and his guys called the other shop, took care of the issue... super helpful! Fast forward 4 years. I buy an american vehicle... there aren't many shops in Berkeley for american vehicles... REALLY GLAD I brought my vehicle in for scheduled maintenance, brakes, etc... Chris was happy to put on some parts that came with the purchase of my used vehicle (unlike the silly 1 star review below)... Chris and his guys are great, suggested i wait on certain items. Great work guys! PS - these guys also work on Subaru's...and will be working on my classic truck as well

I have been going to Ocean Works II for years. Their work is excellent, their experience is invaluable, and they are always there to help you. I completely trust their work. If you have car trouble, this is the place to go. Chris and CJ are caring and honest and really know what they're doing, as do the other guys. There are lots of auto repairs in Berkeley--but Ocean Works II is Number One in my book. Allen--
